Neuro-Ophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology is the study of neurologic visual dysfunction. This includes both the afferent (sensory) visual system and the efferent (motor) visual systems. Common symptoms that indicate a neuro-ophthalmologic problem include visual loss or unusual visual phenomenon, double vision (diplopia), unequal pupils (anisocoria), droopy (ptosis), retraction, or spasm of eyelids.
Major neuro-ophthalmologic conditions in which Dr. Sanders has extensive experience include optic neuritis, ischemic optic neuropathy, pseudotumor cerebri syndrome, stroke resulting in visual field loss or diplopia, vasculopathic cranial nerve palsy, ocular myasthenia gravis, Horner's syndrome, Adie's tonic pupil, Graves' disease, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and others.
